Abstract: In order to overcome the obstacles of cable transmission and power supply of current Cutting Response Analysis (CRA) method, a self-powered coal-rock interface recognition system based on the piezoelectric stacks was proposed. The design of the system has been illustrated. In detail, the functions of the modules including the energy harvester and energy management circuits, as well as signal processing and wireless transmission modules were demonstrated respectively. The experiments that the piezoelectric stacks were impacted by shock load was conducted on the self-developed drop hammer and the response characteristics of the piezoelectric stacks to the shock load were investigated to explore the system feasibility and actual situation when the pick cut the coal-rock interface. The experimental results demonstrate that the piezoelectric stack harvester’s output power reached 35W when the height of the drop hammer was 250mm, which could power various sensors and the ZigBee wireless module.
